Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) operator PrizePicks has signed a deal with the Major League Baseball franchise, the Houston Astros, to become the team’s official DFS partner.
The multi-year deal will include a range of online promotions linking the Astros and PrizePicks. It will also feature PrizePicks branding appearing at Daikin Park, the Astros' home stadium, including static and rotational signs and other public-facing advertising. In addition, the Houston Astros Radio Network will include branded PrizePicks segments along with its regular broadcasting throughout the season.
“We are thrilled to add PrizePicks as an official Astros partner. PrizePicks continues to invest in Major League Baseball and is committed to engaging fantasy sports fans in both a responsible and fun way,” said the Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at the Houston Astros, Matt Richardson.
Under the agreement, PrizePicks will also run a promotion based on Monday games and the Nike City Connect brand. Fans can win PrizePicks game entries and tickets to future games, a little different than you normally see from our best MLB betting sites.
PrizePicks continues strategic positioning
PrizePicks has experienced rapid growth in the DFS sector, which FanDuel and DraftKings had dominated. In 2023, PrizePicks made headlines in industry publications when it was revealed that it had captured 43.2% of revenues for the four states that declared operator-level revenue, partly because of attractive PrizePicks promo codes.
The company, which is based in Atlanta, operates in 46 states across the US. Its rapid growth has been partly based on its strategic positioning in the DFS sector. While FanDuel and DraftKings have increasingly focused on sports betting alongside their DFS products, PrizePicks has concentrated entirely on DFS and has attempted to offer new formats like games for the NFL Draft to differentiate itself from the industry giants.
Continuing MLB partnership plan
The partnership with the Astros is not the first arrangement with a Major League Baseball team that PrizePicks signed last year. Last month, it announced it had become the official DFS operator for the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants.
The deal with the Padres will allow PrizePicks to display its banner at the franchise’s home stadium, Petco Park, and on Padres TV. At Oracle Park, the home of the Giants, there will be interactive signage that fans can flip over every time a Giants pitcher gets a strikeout.
PrizePicks now has links with five Major League Baseball franchises, having signed agreements with the Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins in 2020.
